Edinburgh Elopement: Nadia + Darren’s Edinburgh Elopement
Nadia and Darren married with our Edinburgh city elopement collaborative team, which covers a half day photography, a celebrant to officiate, florals and a cake. It’s a moveable feast which we can use in any Edinburgh or East Lothian elopement venue or outdoor location. It’s a great starting point for any couple who’d like to work with us. Local couples can then think about involving their favourite places to hang out and couples like Nadia and Darren who live in Paris but are from Ireland can find a wee base somewhere near the city centre for a bit of exploring and chill time.
For their wee big day, on the hottest day of the year, N & D found a lovely reception room at Dunstane Houses, near Haymarket train station. We then went for a wander as the couple wanted to have some garden backdrops for their photos.
The ceremony (and pre-wedding advice on the legalities) was written and officiated by Mo from Fuze Ceremonies. Another celebrant from the organisation came along to act as second witness (I was the other one!) as your celebrant can’t be a witness so keep that in mind as an option for planning. We have several celebrants from different organisations as they all have a slightly different ethos and spiritual background so if you are thinking of eloping take a look at our site for a bit more info on the options available.
N&D also included some celtic traditions in their ceremony - tying the knot using tartan ribbons and drinking whisky from a quaich.
Their cake was ridiculously beautiful work by Caked by Catherine, who matched the style of the decoration to the stunning floral dress Nadia had commissioned a Dublin dressmaker, Sarah Foy couture, to create. She also showed the fabric to Jenny at Studio Seapink to tie in the bouquet and buttonhole.
Nadia worked with wonderful local makeup artist Suzanne Christie and Dublin jeweller Natasha Sherling. Oh and I photographed it… always forget to mention myself - you can peep some of my wedding photography here.
Elopements are wonderful to photograph, ceremonies are often far more open and honest than in front of a bigger audience, couples can be vulnerable without the crowd cringe. It always makes for a really beautiful thing to photograph, even with super camera shy and nervous couples. It’s a privilege to be there.
